Sparkles and Glam for the Golden Man

This years 82nd Anniversary of the Oscars was, naturally, a renowned success. Steve Martin and Alec Balwin opened with a humorous and enlightening stand-up comedy, re-caping movies and poking-fun of all the stars. I was happy to see The Hurt Locker bring home numerous deserving awards, and my favorite Sandra Bullock and her stunning (dress) and speech were astonishing.
Aside from the the purpose of the awards and recognition of the new technology savvy films and gifted star; the fashion and fame was better than ever.
Here are my favorite dresses on some of my favorite actresses:

Sandra Bullock
My all-time favorite actress…Poised and Naturally Beautiful

Penelope Cruz
Guapa y Elegante en todos los sentidos

Sarah Jessica Parker
Sex and…The Runway at its finest

Jennifer Lopez
Perfect curves from head to toe, wearing this strapless and everything but motionless dress flawlessly

Zoe Saldana
Obsessing over her purple platform heels!…Although I’ve never been a fan of the “faded-look,” Saldana really pulls this off, with the sparkles and slit at just the right place

"Sneak"-a-Peek

The anticipation for spring’s arrival is actually getting unbearable. Even after being born and raised in the Midwest, these elongated winters still give me cabin fever. As my friends would say “it actually bores me.” So, as the snow still lingers, but the sidewalks are dry…I am ready to give my boots a break and slip into some sneakers. Here’s a “sneak-peek” into some funky sneaker/shoe-lace styles to get ready for the warm weather (for those of us stuck in the cold).

Ash Strappy Buckle Sneaker. This is my favorite sneaker right now. I posted it in brown, but it also comes in black. Talk about take a “leap of faith”….I’d jump in these any day. Although I would love to see little Iowa’s reaction. Whatever. Definitely Awesome.

Oxfords: Although these aren’t exactly “sneakers,” they are the new shoe to tie. I honestly haven’t had a pair since my Mary-Janes my mom made me wear with the ruffles socks that folded over like a bell, but I can’t say you’ll never find me in these. These all have neutral colors that honestly can be worn anytime and with anything. They’re great work shoes, and a definite change from the boot or that slip on flat that leaves constant blisters on your heel.

Converse- What Goes Around Comes Around. I like how weird these are. Might be a little too early to wear with signs of snow around, but definitely digging them.

Nike Air: Had to put this in because after spending 5 months in Europe, I have become a huge fan of high-tops! But I think with the right outfit these are hip. Literally.

Real pic: My chicas Morgan Elies and Carley Thysell rockin the fit: sneakers and leggings.

Earth– Cute and comfortable walking shoe. Everyone could use a pair.

The Future Looks Bright!

As I have mentioned in previous posts, BRIGHT is where it’s at. I will be the first to say I wear my “go-to” black outfits more then I would like to admit. I tell myself this is OK once and ahile, because black makes me feel good and confident…even when I’m having a really off day, but I plan to change this. Going along with the idea the New Year brings change; it is time to actually take more chances in order to get to that point. I’m not sure about anyone else, but I fin myself holding my breath with the rough beginning of 2010. We have seen the devastating events locally, nationally and globally…and we are all keeping those affected by these struggles in our thoughts and prayers.

However, without forgetting, it’s time to move forward and take a leap of faith. Through thinking positive and seeing that light at the end of the tunnel, we can make small steps to make 2010 a little less depressing. Fashion isn’t only a great way to express individuality, but it’s a great escape from things that might get you down and out. In my opinion, what you wear can set you in a certain mood, just like a song.

While we all wish we could have a soundtrack to our life, constantly setting the appropriate frame of mine, rhythmically beating to our disposition…we know this is impossible (although iPod’s have been the closest thing to institute that plan)…but anyway, back to my point. One way to establish your character and your mood is your wardrobe. So, as well all are hoping for a change of pace, even a different rhythm to the 2010’s offset beat…think positive, think bright!

I like to keep my closet color coordinated, so its easy to pull out the bright pinks, blues, yellows and more to add some spice and take some risks! Per usual, I have picked out some charming, loud and explosive pieces from a few of my favorites.

As cliché as it sounds, while I’m ‘blabbing’ about this post, Cyndi Lauper’s song True Colors came on my iPod. How appropriate. So like Lauper says, remember:
“Don’t be afraid to let them show… Your true colors. True colors are beautiful, like a rainbow.”

O.K, I know this isn’t “bright”, but I LOVE this dress and you can pair it with chic, colorful heels or jewelry. Some ideas for shoes are these, Yves Saint Laurents:

This accented electric pink with the pattern is more than obviously fun and unique. (Note: Look out for upcoming pattern on pattern.)
