August 1st is right around the corner, and that means the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is ending soon. With that said, I had to share one of my favorite purchases before it was too late:
This Bobbi Brown Kit.
It is truly a steal, and perfect for those who need refills and/or some new makeup for college. The whole kit is $80, for a $165 value.
Before I knew this was part of the Anniversary sale- mascara, lip gloss and eyeliner were all on my list of things to buy. Now, I have all of these plus a new brush and shimmer that I use every day…
Check out the sale this weekend or order it online now!
There’s nothing better than summer, the beach, and MARGARITAS!
While Chicago breaks heat records and feels somewhat like the tropics today, bring vacation to your home with this carribean classic. It is simple, easy, and delicious.
This summer cocktail is one of my families favorites. Enjoy more time relaxing and less time mixing these simple ingredients.

In anticipation of Topshop opening in Chicago this fall, I have pulled my favorite looks that can be worn day, night or even to work. I cannot wait to dive into the clothes on Michigan Avenue hands-on, instead of only being able to browse their website. As I have mentioned in earlier posts, Topshop is one of my favorite European stores, and the Chicago location will now be the second one opening in the states. I couldn’t be more excited!
Until then, visit the TopShop website to shop these looks.
The weekend is finally here! Looking for fun and cheap activities?
Check out some of these ways to enjoy the summer days and nights, while keeping a buck or two in your pocket.
Who said you have to be in the pavilion to enjoy or even hear the music?
Walk down to 12th Street Beach with a blanket, and a small picnic – Just grab a sandwich and bottle of wine from a little deli – and listen to the music from Charter One Pavilion at Notherly Island.
Check out the schedule here.
No one is too old for the Lincoln Park Zoo, and lets face it, it’s FREE!
Stroll through LP zoo later in the afternoon, and then walk over to a restaurant or bar nearby. One of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood is Half Shell. It is a total dive, and was actually recommended to me by my parents – who used to go there on dates when they lived in Lincoln Park 20+ years ago!
And finally, for an activity you can enjoy just about anywhere…A Summer Cooler.

I’m back! After taking some time to regroup and start another chapter in my life, I am finally beginning to adjust to the “real world.”
Although still perfecting my daily routine, I am in the heart of Chicago and loving every minute of it. From the excitement on the lake, the energetic streets and nightlife, the endless shopping…I just cant get enough. As I get back on track with my new apartment, new job, and all that comes with “growing up”- I have decided to channel my efforts to post fun, affordable and easy ways to decorate, entertain, eat, shop, cook and save money all at the same time.
For now, I have posted some fun pictures I have captured throughout the beginning of the summer, and my time spent decorating my apartment. I am excited to get back into my blogging, and hope to dig up some interesting, fun and fashionable ways to live spontaneously in this gorgeous city.
The Matt & Nat line is designed by Inder Bedi, and inspired after a “challenge by a Mahatma to go vegetarian for 30 days.” Bedi explains how the boho-chic, minimalist line is made with cruelty-free materials and 100% recycled bottles. After learning more about this brand, and loving their products already, it reminded me of the 7 years I spent being a vegetarian. Although I did not attempt full “vegan-ism,” it was a very important time in my life. I was influenced by PITA, and started by writing a research paper on the cruelty of animals that later sparked my 7 year, meat-free days. Staying clear from a “animal cruelty speech,” these bags are fabulous, affordable and most of all attempting to help animals, and fight the fear of global warming.
Read this short “About Us” from their website. It might inspire you.
“Positive impact, every little bit counts!
As has been the case since our humble beginnings, our line is cruelty-free, using no animal products. Veganism has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to fight global warming.
As an example of the spirit and commitment of MATT & NAT, all linings of our bags and wallets are made of 100% recycled plastic bottles. In fact, on average we recycle 21 water bottles to make the lining of each bag.
In 2011 we introduced cork labeling inside all of our bags, an innovative material in the fashion industry that is sustainable to the environment. Cork extraction is one of the most environmentally friendly harvesting processes in the world.
Every now and then we also donate bags to women’s shelters around Montreal, feed the homeless people of this city a vegetarian meal and throw product out of our office windows to loyal fans.”
One of my favorite songs by Frank Sinatra, and seemingly appropriate after I made the big move to the Gold Coast of Chicago this weekend.
It certainly is My Kind of Town…
Today, mother nature has graced us with yet another rainy/wintery-mix day. It reminds me of my Sophomore year of college , when we had a wet spring and I was determined to find a pair of boots that would get me through the “long” walks to class in the rain. After some searching, I came upon this picture of Kate Moss in her Hunter Boots. At that moment, it was immediately settled that I wanted those exact Hunter Boots. After discovering I would not be able to get that particular color in my size right away, I opted to go with Merlot, a deep. Four years later, I am still wearing these fabulous boots more than ever. Recently, Hunter has come out with a sock for the boots, so they can be duo’d as snow boots, as well. Before these toe warming socks, I vividly remember waiting for the bus after class in the snow, and the rubber of the boot got so cold I literally was convinced I had frostbite. Luckily that was not the case, but I would definitely recommend the wool socks when wearing them in the snow- And thin ones when jumping through puddles. You can find an array of colorful Hunter boots at stores, such as Nordstrom and ShopBop. However, if you want to order them online, with free next day shipping- go with Zappos.com.
